Hailey's Portfolio
This image is taken looking up at the inside of a sun umbrella. The frame of the umbrella brings in the concept of line and shape. There are repeating triangular and octagonal shapes that are intriguing to the eye. The photo was taken from sitting in a chair with a point-and-shoot camera. The Camera was set on auto but if the white balance was to be manually set, it would be set to sunny due to very bright, sunny conditions on the patio. I find the composition interesting to look at because there are so many lines. My eyes are constantly moving around to look at each line and each white and dark value. I converted the image to black and white but there are so many different values that I feel like I am looking at a color slide.
This photo was taken when I was standing below the awning of the front of the building. I was close, looking at the building at an upward angle. The photo shows a pattern or repetition of rectangular shapes and there is rhythm where there are vertical, horizontal and diagonal lines. The picture is my favorite but it is extremely overexposed, it is very white but the subject I was shooting was all white, the only darks were the shadows created. I personally love this picture so much, it almost looks like a painting. I didn't use a filter on the image but it looks as if there is some type of filter.
I find this portrait of Matt Graca, absolutely stunning. I love how half of is face is almost completely masked by darkness. This photo was taken in school in a studio set up. Matt sat on a stool in front of a black backdrop with a single, bright light to his lower left. The only editing I did was crop the surrounding space because you could see the floor and side walls which were visually distracting to the strong image of Matt. Matt's facial expression is so strong, probably due to the bright light and his complete lack of desire to be in front of the camera, but whatever he was thinking it created an awesome photo. I believe that this photo is correctly exposed. I set the white balance by taking a picture of a complete white screen.
